Collaboratorium for Anticipatory Dynamics

CRITICAL ANTICIPATION STUDIES

WE SHAPE WHAT WE ANTICIPATE. and WHAT WE ANTICIPATE SHAPES US.

Critical Anticipation Studies investigates the dynamics between anticipation and the present. What we expect, fear, desire and imagine influences what we perceive, feel, choose and do. But the movement also runs the other way: our bodies, emotions, experiences, cultures, institutions and environments continually reshape what we anticipate.

CAS studies this movement. Drawing across social science, philosophy, futures studies, design, ecology, culture and the arts, it examines how anticipatory dynamics open and close possibilities for what can emerge.

It is research concerned not simply with what we think about the future, but with what thinking about the future does with us and the planets.

CONFLUENCE blue

WHAT KIND OF HUMANS DO WE WANT TO BECOME?

Confluence Blue takes the inquiry into lived practice.

If the ways we sense, feel, relate and act are entangled with what we anticipate, changing how we live becomes a way of exploring what else might become possible. Through sensonomy, we use sensory and emotional experience, movement, place, culture and shared experience as ways of knowing and experimenting.

Our horizon is the Symbiocene: a world in which human flourishing is inseparable from flourishing within the living world.

Confluence Blue does not try to design the humans of the future. It creates places and practices in which we can explore who we might become.
